The New Jane Austen?

Like many other Austenites, I’ve been fascinated by Dr Paula Byrne’s discovery of a possible new Austen portrait. One of the things that was frustrating about the image was the fact that the artist was obviously somewhat technically limited in his/her depiction. I decided to “correct” what I saw as being artistic flaws – the wonky eyes, the elongated neck and over-long face and lips which didn’t seem to match with other accounts of Miss Austen. So – in Photoshop, I flipped one eye to make a more evenly matched pair, reduced the neck length and the chin/lower face and slightly reduced the size of the mouth. What do you think…?!
